OK, you suspect that the nanny is searching your drawers when you aren’t around to check up on her.  You’ve looked into camera surveillance systems and have determined that one of these systems is just what you need.  It makes sense.  Why not give your house the general level of protection that it needs for you to feel secure.  But, the nanny issue is a special problem.  It requires that a hidden spy camera be placed in your bedroom, watching the dresser drawers.

When deciding which spy cam you want to integrate with the rest of your camera surveillance system, first decide whether you want wireless or not.  With a wired system, you have the advantages of unlimited recording time, a stronger signal from the camera and usually a better price.  The disadvantages here are that the camera must be tethered to power and signal cords.  This, of course, makes hiding it a bit more challenging.  Wireless spy cameras usually come with lithium batteries that can power the unit and transmit signal for about five hours before recharging is required.  Both types of camera have about the same dimensions.  Expect them to be about a ½ inch box shape. With the good ones, you will get color and audio as well.

Some spy cameras are sold as a complete system that does not require any additional equipment. So, in this case the camera transits its signal to the recording unit.  The recording unit usually looks like a flat digital camera, with an LED display on one side to view the recording.  These are sometimes called SD spy cameras because of the memory card associated with the recording unit.  Standard capacity these days is one gigabyte, which will get you two to three hours of viewing time before the memory is full.

Before you make your purchase, scope out the area and decide where the camera should go.  This will help in your big decision of whether or not to go wireless with your hidden spy camera.  If you don’t have a camera surveillance system to integrate it with and you want to get started right away, just go with an SD spy camera until you can upgrade.
